La llorona just another legend being passed on..

La Llorona is a legend that has fascinated me since I was little. Being able to do research on it has been a great experience. Although there is not much evidence to indicate that ot  is truth. I still think its truth because there is similar stories to this and who knows they can still be haunting. I know for a fact that there are various stories that have the same point a lady killing her children and now haunting and crying for them . Stories always change because they get passed on and people tend to add more things. Although La Llorona doesn’t have that much research I still like that legend and it still gives me chills because I know there is crazy ladys out there like her and can do the same thing.

La llorona Truth or not based on evidense?

I has been very hard to gather evidence since there is different story's about La Llorona. Walraven, Ed. Western Folklore. California Folklore Society: 1991 this book just focuses of scary story like La Llorona and focuses on the bodies of water where she could be seen. But doesn’t have an actual case.It gives a good description of how the Llorona appears but never says facts about the people that saw her.

Different versions

There are many interesting stories about la Llorona. One of them is called la llorona: Harlot. Her name was Linda she grew up in a tough part of town. She had learned in a young age to use what she had to get what she wanted. Linda was a single mom and worked as waitress in one evening  she met Alejandro a sexy man  with a decent job that was an easy target. She seduced him then brought up the idea of getting married he told her he couldn’t marry her because there was prying eyes she immediately thought her son was an obstacle. She then threw the baby in the river days later she asked Alejandro if they could get married since she had already got rid of the problem. She was horrified and told her it was his mother he was talking about. She was furious and grabbed a knife and stabbed Alejandro and then herself. Till this day children hear her loud cries by the river and run from them. Schlosser, S.E. "La Llorona : A New Mexico Ghost story."AmericanFolklore.net  acessed  October 20,2011  Some people say she haunts men that go to bars usually drunk . She Wears her beautiful gown and they try and run after her because they are impressed with her curves .  As soon as they reach her she turns around .If they see her face they die.

La llorona : Virgin Maria was an innocent girl that lived with her parents. She was her father’s pride. One day Maria gave birth her parents didn’t even know she was pregnant .Her dad said the only thing that was left to do was a shot gun wedding .When they asked Maria who the father of the baby was she said she had never been with a man . The parents didn’t really believe it but they still kept the baby a secret. One day Marias father went into the room and took the baby and threw it  in the river. Maria woke up with a bad feeling and ran to river but it was too late for the baby and her. She left blood beside the river. Shortly after her disappearance people started seeing apparitions of a young woman holding a baby weeping by the river. Guzman, "La Llorona" http://www.la llorona.com acessed October 21, 2011. They saw her pretty little innocent face she was crying blood and dripping it along the river.

Background information

La llorona or in English translate to the weeping lady has terrified people for years. There are a lot of versions of this story some say that its roots trace back all the way to Spanish conquest in Mexico. Some say her name was la Malinche and others that it was Maria .In every legend it is said she came from a lower status from province. She was beautiful and cought every man’s attention she was tall slender and had long black silky hair. She loved to wear a white gown. In one of the oldest legend it is said she was Cortez mistress she gave birth to two twin boys. Cortés continues his conquests. The King and Queen of Spain, fearing that Cortés has betrayed them and is building his own empire, repeatedly ask him to return to Spain. He refuses, saying that if he leaves they will lose their new territories. The King and Queen send a beautiful Spanish lady to convince him to return. The Spanish lady seduces Cortés, convincing him to return to Spain with his two sons. Cortés tells La Malinche of his decision to return with his children and to leave her behind. She then takes the kids with her and drowns them. (www.la llorona.com)(ww.theoutlaws.com)

My interest in la Llorona

As a child legends always fascinated me. The ones that I liked the most are the ones that come from Mexico. I went to Mexico every year and the only thing that never changed was that every night we would get together with all the kids in the neighborhood and talk about scary things. My favorite was the legend of “La LLorona”. I just think it’s so interesting . There is a case that happened that is kind of alike here in Texas, A lady drowned her five kids and I think she got her negative ideas from this legend. This is a unique legend that I actually believe because there are some legends that sound completely unreal.
